Description

This set-up is used to study a non-catalytic homogeneoussecond order liquid phase reaction under ambientcondition in a combined reactor. It consists of tworeactors connected in series; one is plug flow reactor andanother is CSTR.In an ideal Plug Flow Reactor (PFTR) there is no mixing inthe direction of flow and complete mixing perpendicularto direction of flow. Concentration of reactants variesalong the length of reactor but not in radial direction. Incase of a coil turbulence is introduced due to frequentchange in direction of flow and presence of secondaryflow, so a higher value of reaction rate constant isexpected in coil tube type plug flow reactor.In an ideal CSTR the contents in reactor are well mixedand have uniform composition throughout. Thus the exitstream has the same composition as the fluid within thereactor.The set up consists of two feed tanks through which tworeactants are fed to the reactors fitted in series.Rotameters are provided to measure the individual flowof Chemicals. The flow rate can be adjusted by operatingthe needle valves provided on respective rotameter. Thecompressed air is used for circulation of feed. 1st is ahelical coil tube type reactor made up of SS pipe.Reactants enter at lower end coming out of the top of coilfrom where it is fed to CSTR fitted with stirrer for propermixing. Samples are collected for analysis. Pressure Regulator, Pressure Gauge and Safety Valve are fitted inthe compressed air line.
