Description

The set-up is used to carry out the emulsionpolymerization involving polymerization of a unsaturatedmonomer like Styrene. Emulsion is of the type: oil inwater, monomer is oil soluble & the initiator is watersoluble& an emulsifier is used to create a stableemulsion. Apparatus can be used to generate the kineticdata for emulsion polymerization under various operatingconditions like temperature, emulsifier concentration etc.Polymerization is carried out under the atmosphere of airfree nitrogen. The set-up consists of jacketed type SSreactor fitted with a variable speed agitator & baffles. Hotwater from a digitally controlled water bath is circulatedin the jacket using a pump. Metered quantity of nitrogengas from a cylinder passes through a de-oxygenationcolumn& allowed to enter in the reactor. Air has to beevacuated using a vacuum pump to create vacuum up to30mm of Hg before passing the nitrogen supply. Initiatorfrom reservoir is supplied to the reactor under pressure.Set-up is complete & self-contained with sampling ports.
