Description
Helical coils are used for heating or cooling in processtanks. When a fluid flows through a curved tube,centrifugal force acting upon the various elements of fluidmoving with different velocities causes secondarycirculation. Secondary flow results in higher heat transfercharacteristics. Further, secondary flow stabilizes thelaminar flow leading to a higher critical Reynolds numberfor transition from laminar to turbulent flow.
