Description

The present set-up is designed to study three type of flowmeasuring devices. These are orifice meter, Venturimeter and rotameter. The set-up also facilitates the enduser to calculate fluid discharge through these devices. Bydetermining the co-efficient of discharge of venturi meterand orifice meter, these devices can be used as a directflow meter and can be installed in a fluid line. Rotameteris provided with a pre-calibrated scale. By passing aknown flow of fluid through the rotameter andcomparing this to provided scale reading, end user can recalibratethe rotameter.The apparatus consists of three pipe lines emerging outfrom a common manifold. All three-pipe line has beeninstalled with a test section. One has venturi meter,second has an orifice meter and third one is having arotameter. The Venturi meter, Orifice meter and Rotameter are connected in parallel and any one of themcan be put in operation by operating valves provided atthe downstream. Pressure taping from venturi meter andorifice meter are taken out to pressurized differentialpressure manometer.Present set-up is self-contained water re-circulating unit,provided with a sump tank, centrifugal pump etc. Wateris pumped by means of centrifugal pump and passingthrough the test sections, it returns back to the sumpwhich make the system re-circulating type. Flow of wateris diverted either to measuring tank or sump tank withthe means of a flow diverter, when needed. Flow controlvalve and by-pass valve are fitted in water line to conductthe experiment on different flow rates. Flow rate of wateris measured with the help of measuring tank withpiezometer and stopwatch. The supplied set-up iscomplete in all respect. Only water supply and electricitysupply is to be provided by the end user for running theset-up.
